Longtimeno

I have a habit of subjecting (that is, giving them the subject, not performing anything unto them) emails with "longtimeno" if I've been negligent in sending a reply for more than... a couple of week or so, I couldn't give you the exact scientific deadline as to when something falls into that "longtimeno" category for me, it's more of a feeling. Something to sic the ...

Grub Street

Long time no, folks. Between the Bruins being in top form this season (slight digression, saw someone else's post about the Black and Gold and thought someone else on RedRoom was writing about the Big Bad Bruins... only to see they're talking about some football team or another... ) and my day job, the one that pays our bills ($28 or so in royalty checks every six months, while nice, is not ...

Audio Follow Up

A while ago, I was asking about audio recording recommendations from people. I got a couple, but wound up doing a little digging, myself, to see what I could do with the tools I had at hand. Well, I had an iPhone, and it had a microphone. And it had all sorts of whizzy voice recorders for various prices, so I figured I'd have a look, and see if any suited my needs. And if none did, I could ...

Getting the Word Out About Readings

Further Fenway Fiction's been out a few years now, so readings are fewer and farther between these days, but I always find they energize me, get me back into the writing game with a little more oomph, a little more verve. And this time, I'm reading in my hometown, so I'm really looking into ways to get this reading as well if not more well-attended than previous readings. We've had good ...

Fenway Fiction Reading

As mentioned in the Events section, I'll be reading, along with the editor of the Fenway Fiction collections, at the Charlton Public Library on October 18th, 2008 at 1pm to around 2:30pm.I spent most of my childhood in Charlton (escaping the mean streets of Worcester, Mass. at the age of two or so), where, at the time, cows nearly outnumbered people. Now, however, people definitely outnumber cows ...

The Gathering: A Short Review

Preface: I generally keep track of my reading online at All Consuming, and when I finish a book which I feel deserves a little bit of extra comment I'll post a short review of why I liked it or didn't, and who might like it. The handy thing is that the review can then also be posted seamlessly to your own blog (if it's Wordpress or Blogger or one of the popular ones with an API for that sort of ...

The Brewster Book Store

For anyone desperate to pick up a signed copy of Further Fenway Fiction, you can now pick up a signed copy at The Brewster Book Store. There's one in stock, and was signed earlier today by yours truly. A great read on your holidays down on the Cape.

Widgets and Reading

Inspired by Kristy Kiernan's post about a widget (http://www.redroom.com/blog/kristy-kiernan/are-you-author-you-must-see), I figured I'd post two of my favorite reading haunts, on the web.First off, I've been using AllConsuming the longest, and they have a fine snippet of JavaScript you can embed in your page to highlight what you're reading. LibraryThing is another good site for tracking your ...

Audio?

Lately, to fit in some thoughtwork time wherever possible (parenthood has made me creative in ways I never thought I'd need to be about time and stealing a bit here and there, in the wee hours of the morning and in between asynchronous naps and even during feeding times), I've been thinking more and more about adding audio notes via a voice recorder to my repertoire of ways to jot down notes and ...

Just Add Water (And Extra Innings)

Just got word from my editor last night that he's finishing off the manuscript for Fenway Fiction Three, and my latest story about the Red Sox (or their fans, at any rate) has made it in.It's a touching story about two erstwhile gypsies from Ireland visiting their old friends, now living on the West Coast of America. One of the friends happens to be a part of that other diaspora: Red Sox Nation ...
