Getting Settled
So it's winding up to the end of my first week here at Red Room, and I think I can safely say I made the right choice.
I'm definitely not bored. There's so much going on, as we're going to be launching tons of new features in the coming weeks. I'm still kind of learning the ropes, so I've been quietly collecting all of our data from various sources and putting it in a few nicely organized documents and spreadheets. And while I know that doesn't sound terribly pulse quickening, it's been a great way to familiarize myself with the office and the information I'll eventually need to know. Plus, I feel like I'm actually being productive, as opposed to sitting and watching and waiting to start. I've also been really happy with everyone here at the office. The company is staffed and run by very competent, and almost more importantly, very nice people.
I must admit, at first I wasn't so sure about the whole Red Room thing. Before I interviewed here I received some information in my inbox and promptly ignored it. Social networking? Books? I didn't think much of it for a few weeks until I had the opportunity to interview here, and I got a better understanding of the company and its potential in the marketplace, as well as the world of ideas. But I don't need to tell you that. You're already here!
The enthusiasm and energy here is striking - at least, it struck me the first time I walked in the door. The is a website created for and run by people who love reading and love writing, and love the world of literature in general. It seems a common thread is the desire for le mot juste, or better yet, l'idée juste. I'm thrilled to be a part of this team, and I'm excited to be contributing to the future of Red Room, and hopefully, the future of books.
(Ambitious, no?)

Your timing is good
I always like the idea on getting on the ground floor of something. That way you can fix things before they get a chance to get "broke." :)

Max,
Thank you for your timely and wonderful comment on my most recent blog post. And CONGRATULATIONS on your new position at Red Room! As a family law attorney who works with both children and adults, I am particularly interested in your book. Look forward to checking it out.
