- I never do any personal P.R. because...well, it seems to me that it never makes any difference. Its just one of those things I have learned by being alive. And there are few enough of those things. But it seems I learn this one over and over. Still...I will make that weak attempt one more time. For no reason at all. So okay, three things. 1. Here is someone else's blog about me, my dogs ...

- No one has been clamoring for it, but here it is anyway. The German expressionist episode of Quickdraw McGraw that Hanna Barbara somehow forgot to make. Well, actually the whole show looked like this to me.

- The L.A.Weekly has a comedy issue out. The theme was Hollywood horror stories and I contributed one. If you go to L.A.Weekly online, you can read great ones by my friends Elayne Boosler and Laura Kightlinger. Here is mine: Lather Rinse Repeat. By Merrill Markoe In 1986 , when Ronald Reagan was President, Paramount bought a screenplay from me about a girl who worked at a magazine, was about ...

- There is an interesting article in todays New York Times about a service that now exists to help recovering patients make their way through all the false charges on their hospital bills. These self titled "medical advocates" charge to help you navigate the language of the insurance companies and hopefully spot instances of double billing and fraud. That's the premise anyway. ...

- I don’t watch that much reality TV. Although I am hooked on “Intervention” and “Obsessed.” And I did go to a friend’s house to watch the season closer of The Bachelor. But for the most part, the stuff slithers past me . Until today. Because I just read a review of a new show in the L.A. Times that provides the first really concrete reason to stand behind reality shows as a genre.Below ...

- I went to art school. Well, actually I went to UC Berkeley where I was an art major all the way through to a Masters degree.Which immediately reminds me of the words of the great Joe Strummer who said "There's only one answer to what you're going to do after school and thats art school; The last resort of malingerers and people who don't want to work." He's not wrong. And I admit ...

- I have begun the difficult task of creating a corporate montage for my dog. Because everyone here at this house needs more vertical media integration. Like they had at the Michael Jackson funeral. Its all about the media integration now. And of course, the branding. And the repackaging of your assets. I'm feeling good about this. http://merrillmarkoe.com/blog

- Last night I cooked a squash in the oven. This morning, I discovered this lighter than air blob of stuff in a pan on one of the lower racks; a porous charcoal cloud that I bet doesn't weigh a whole ounce. It looks like what you feel like you shed once your depression has lifted. Or the thing you got rid of when you finally stopped worrying. Or maybe its that thing that dissolved when you ...

- Its the fourth of July weekend. What that used to mean to me, when I was single, was the beginning of the downhill slide to Christmas. Because July seemed to go by in such a rapid flash that the next thing I knew, it was the part of August where the fences for the Halloween pumpkin lots started going up. Well, come on. They have to start in August because it takes at least 60 days to get ready ...

- Everyone knows that the publishing industry in general and artists in specific are struggling to figure out how to get paid vis a vis 'new media'.Its not clear how it is ever going to work for anyone but the corporations buying ads, unless you are among the people collecting money for those ads. I have been watching and contemplating uplifting corporate montages for the last few years. I like ...

- It may not surprise you to hear that I have very little experience negotiating international policy. While this wouldn't have held me back from a prominent advisor position in the Bush years, I am afraid that it disqualifies me from stepping up to the plate in the current administration. But I have stumbled on a unique rarely mentioned negotiation strategy that I feel compelled to share . After ...

- I compulsively read all those articles that boast “Ten new foods that burn belly fat .” I guess lots of people do and that’s why they make up so many new lists every month. Sometimes I think its the same bunch who fabricate the belly flab lists and the “101 new ways to turn him on” lists that sell Women’s magazines. (As if the 101 ways offered in the last issue was just ...

- I just came back from a vacation with the man with whom I live and David Attenborough, who bobs around in my brain and lectures to me whenever I am in a situation that showcases nature. If I were to start a religion, I would use David Attenborough as the centerpiece because in his BBC documentaries he is everywhere and knows everything. He is under the ocean, in the tree tops, deep in the arctic ...
