AAAS Award for Science Journalism
Back in May, my work with Ashley Merryman for Time Magazine won the top journalism award from the organization of America's top sociologists, the Council for Contemporary Families.
Well, we just learned that our work for New York Magazine won the top science journalism award from the world's largest scientific community, the American Association for the Advancement of Science. This is sort of the Pulitzer of science writing, my friend David Duncan informed me (himself a 2003 winner). It was the classic early morning telephone call, out of the blue - I saw the 617 area code and thought it might be my aunt calling.

Congratulations!!
That's fabulous news, Po. I've followed your career ever since I met you in 1994 at the LA Book Convention. Jane Ganahl has shared stories of your success.

AAAS Award
Hi,
I recently wrote a blog post about the latest winner of the AAAS Science Journalism award, Terry McDermott, a friend who wrote an excellent series "Chasing Memory" for the LA Times. The story is about research on memory, a topic I'm very interested in. I've been writing about my time caring for my boyfriend who had a malignant brain tumor in the part of the brain responsible for short-term memory. (A few years later, I met David Duncan in Colorado Springs to the US Olympic Training Ctr. We were both on assignments--he for Discover, I for Scientific American.)
Hope you're up for more awards,
Delia
