My Favorite Summer Read...

Is the book I've been trying to read since Christmas.  Terry Goodkind, Confessor.

I am the mother of a 13 month old little girl.  She's the light of my life.  But until about a week ago she hadn't figured out the sleep thing.  Most nights, somewhere around 9pm I could finally coax her into sleep. The whole process tired me out so much that I was lucky to have enough energy to read about a page.  That was what I'd been averaging until about a week ago.

She was being a fussy-bucket.  The rocking wasn't working.  The second reading of "Good Night Moon" wasn't working.  I just lay her in the crib.  She rolled over grabbed her Pooh bear and fell asleep.  I was dumbfounded.  It was 8:15.  Ok....  I didn't know what to do with myself until it struck me I have a book to read.  I curl up on the couch and read for half an hour! It was so exciting.

Now for the book. "Confessor" is the final book in the Sword of Truth series.  I picked up the series with the previous book "Phantom".  One of the things I love about Terry Goodkind is that you don't need to read any of the previous books in his series to thoroughly enjoy.

He has created a world where magic is science. It's a place where those who belive in life, logic, and magic are fighting to keep those who believe in hate, violence, death and blind obedience to the Creator from taking over the world.  On this side is Emperor Jagang who uses the blind devotion of his people to the Creator in a quest for power over the world.  He has them convinced that this life is vile.  Death is preferable because the next life is where you want to be.

On the side of life is Richard and Kahlan.  Kahlan is the center of a spell that completely strips her of identity.  No one except for  a precious few remembers here.  The memories are just gone.  Oh, and by the way this spell can destroy the world if it's not countered with another spell that both sides are trying to complete. He who completes the spell wins.  Richard is Kahlan's husband and war wizard.  He is our hero.  But he can't tell Khalan about him because it could contaminate the spell. And so he tries to complete the spell.  Unfortunately, he is captured by Jagang's army. No one there knows who he is.  Which is how he manages to survives.

I haven't finished the book yet.  This is all I can say with out giving away all the good parts.
