Why can't we be peaceful?

There is this force within us that cries, "That is not right! That is wrong! That should be this way! This should be that way! We must end this! We must fight that!"

The Hindus have a name for that part of us, they call him Asiloma. Loosely and expertly translated as "Want of resolution."

He's my constant companion these days. I see the world through a clear lens, or at least much clearer than I used to. Now I find myself craving an end to the pure insanity of the humanity around me. If you stop for one second, contemplate even the simplest human activity and ask yourself, "Why do we do that?" The answer might jump out at you and make you see things as they really are. If you do, even for a minuscule fraction of a second, you might realize just how arrogant, dangerous, and selfish humanity is.

Chances are good though that when you see that you'll let it go or cover it up with a huge amount of various mental afflictions which, by design, protect us from such realizations.

I suppose by now you recognize a rant when you hear one. Suffice to say I'm saddened by how leaders are elected, how it becomes a popularity contest between people who must be perfect in our eyes, or at least be really really good at covering their tracks. Lying, cheating, stealing, manipulating, bribing, and a plethora of other qualities help.

Where have all the good folk gone?

They still exist, but they don't want to run for office. Office holds no appeal to them. They do ordinary jobs in extraordinary ways, touch a few people's lives showing others how to be extraordinary. They lead by example, not by election, and they are the true unsung heroes of our society. They are the ones who keep things working and keep the Asiloma Demons from destroying all that is built.

They just barely keep it all together, but just barely is good enough.

Those few good folks, I should really call them "healthy" to keep my terminology clean, keep the world going so that those who are impacted by the unhealthy can choose a more healthy path. They give us the opportunity to choose the example of health they set.

I'm thankful I see the difference and I'm thankful I can choose to follow those peaceful healthy masters.

If only I could stop caring about those who can't or won't or don't.

Once again my words are hollow. Perhaps they made a thud on your ears? Hear any ringing?

At least I found serenity by vetting out these thoughts and observing how they are merely that same want of resolution acting in me to want to bring true peace to a world that is totally out of my control. Through this awareness I know that there will never be a solution out there: there will only ever be a solution in my heart and in my mind.

In the end, I can only let my own mind be changed. I guess that's what the ultimate examples always give us: they show us how we should let ourselves be molded into the healthy example.

Peace.
