A New Day, A New Week...and the same task

This is the crowded part of Inis Meain

Well, hooray!  My blog from last week on visiting literary sites caught the attention of Red Room and catapaulted me to the front page.  That's great, and I've got some great things planned for this week's writings and will add photos from all three books this week to fill out the photo galleries.  I want to talk about a crazy trip out to the remote island of Inis Meain to research my book, A Journey into Ireland's Literary Revival and what I learned about setting fire to authors' homes from Brock Clarke.  But first, I need to finish the index for Walking Boston.  I did,  however, wrap up proofing the galleys and sending those back to the publisher.  I think aside from those great days where the writing seems to come without effort, proofing the galleys is my favorite part of the process.  There is something very gratifying about this stage:  you can see and imagine the final product but still have the potential to make important changes -- even if it is just in comma placement.  The narrow focus of the galley proofing is a bit more zen than deep revision stage where everything is on the table.

What parts of the book writing stage work for you?  What do you dread?
