Aesthetic Distance by Carolyn Cooke

May 7, 2009, 11:22 am

Today all I want to do is to include a link to a brilliant story, "Aesthetic Discipline," by Carolyn Cooke, a part of the series "Fifty-two Stories with Cal Morgan." I don't want to give away too much but will just let anyone coming across this inhabit the story directly. Here's the description from the site:

Here is another brand-new story—this one from the acclaimed Carolyn Cooke, whose work has appeared several times in The Best American Short Stories and Prize Stories: The O. Henry Awards. Her story “Aesthetic Discipline” is a miracle of atmosphere, somehow evoking both louche indolence and the claustrophia of a tightly controlled world

thanks for the link

Lately I've been reading the highly stylized work of Carlos Ruiz Zafon and found myself meditating on ideas of aesthetic "distance" and "discipline," so appreciate you sharing this post.
