Amidst devastations all around us nowadays – deadly floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, there exists a growing trend in the world today – that is “Blaming God for all the bad things happening in our lives.” Why do some people easily blame God for all the sufferings they experience in life? Is it because He’s the Almighty, powerful being that He shouldn’t let these catastrophes to happen that’s why they turn their backs on Him? Wouldn’t that be unfair if all tribulations would be put on God, who is the reason behind our existence and who loves us all unconditionally?

In a comedy film entitled “The Man Who Sued God”, Steve Myers, a fisherman and ex-lawyer files an insurance claim when his boat was struck by lightning. The insurance companies cannot give his claim for the lightning that struck his boat was an act of God so that doesn’t make them liable. Myers challenged the right of insurance companies to refuse payment on the basis of common legal exemption clauses. He then sued God through religious institutions as representatives of God on earth. Quite absurd and funny, but the institutions were faced with the dilemma of either stating that God doesn’t exist to uphold the legalities, or to be held liable and pay Myers for the damages caused by “acts of God”. Such is a comedy fiction but is quite relevant to those who have this habit of  always blaming God.  I can understand why some people harbor ill feelings like “Why Has God allowed this to happen to us?” or “Where was He when we needed Him to save us?” to a more deeper undertone , “If there is a God, why does He allow things to happen like these”, questioning the existence of the Almighty. But think about this : Why not blame Satan instead? The master of all evil things? It’s not common to hear that blame on him, isn’t it? The biblical character Job had to undergo a lot- and it was because of Satan not God. Just a though there.  It is said that everything happens for a reason. Either good or bad, we can learn a lot from it. And what if we learn that it is really God who is behind all these? What are we going to do about it? Sue Him like what Myers did? Harass Him and spite Him by not attending masses on Sundays? And what does all these blamings do? They cannot give you back your destroyed properties nor the lives of your loved-ones anymore. And who in the end will suffer and lead a miserable life? YOU. And the more you sin against God and yourself…Moral lesson: Blaming is for all those who are too lazy to do anything about their situation. How can God help you if you keep on blaming Him and don’t do your thing?

What a great twist this Myers fella came up with. I'm shocked it has never been tried before. Absolute genius to sue the churches as, after all, they do represent The Almighty. Who would one sue if insurance companies blamed it on "an act of Satan?" Considering all Christian religions believe in both heaven and hell, it is curious they always lay blame on big G.
