The Christian Science Monitor  reports that Art Spiegelman, creator of the legendary comic book Maus, has once again elevated that genre to its proper place in the literary pantheon. Sort of.

If you have read my book (thank you), you know that one of my characters is a comic book collector. Oscar detests the title graphic novel and much prefers the title comic book, which he views as a badge of honor. Although I personally think there is something to be said for the concept of graphic novel, I agree with Oscar that comic book is a title to be earned,envied and respected.

Spiegelman reportedly said [‘Comics’] is a dumb word, but that’s what they are.”

 I agree half-heartedly.
