What a difference a date makes

October 29, 2008, 12:28 am

So as I was debating whether to email this kindered spirit in Scotland, I went back to read Rob MacKenzie's blog again. Could there really be someone impersonating me as the author of Poem E? Would a blogger fabricate a story that he was in touch with a mystery poet just to garner more hits? What a terrifying world we live in when poets are impersonated and blogs rule the day.

There is a simple and somewhat sad answer. Although Google brings Rob's blog up first when one types in TLS - Poetry Competition, and he did vote for Poem E, the date on his blog was, you guessed it, 2007. It seems last year Poem E won with just 26% of the vote. So no one seems to be taking on the poems this year yet. Maybe you, dear reader, will be the first to critique the twelve poems (out of three thousand) and see what you think.

In the meantime, I think I've some paper grading to attend to -

Pavel Somov, Ph.D.

Pavel Somov, Ph.D. says:

lacking the context

lacking the context for the mysterious occurence that you cite and lacking the motivation for reading the three thousand poems to ascertain a verdict that I presume will validate this or that side of the coin that now stands on its side, I... really don't know what to say... other than that here we are: you just posted "this" and I just posted "this."

One objective this - yet so many interpretations...  perhaps, even "truth" comes only in quotation marks...
