As the tango says:

Así se baila el tango,
sintiendo en la cara,
la sangre que sube
a cada compás,

(Thus is tango danced,
feeling in the face
the blood that rises
with each rhythm.)

I’m involved in two major Argentine tango events in the San Francisco Bay Area on Valentine’s weekend. Please join us. . .

¡Milonga de amor! At The Ferry Building (at The Embarcadero and Market Street in San Francisco), this “milonga” is a recreation of the great tango dance halls that exist in Buenos Aires, Argentina to this day. A few hundred tango dancers will twirl about to marvelous music. All the shops and restaurants in The Ferry Building will be open, so that dancers and viewers can sample the wines and foods that will be so amply available. Admission to the “milonga” is free (although we gladly accept donations of $10.00, if you wish.) I and fellow Red Room writer Beatrice Bowles are hosting the event. Friday, February 13, 5:30 PM – 8:00 PM

Tango: A Romantic Ritual. A Valentine’s Weekend Show: Tango touches hearts and transforms lives. Terence Clarke (Narrator), Marcelo Puig (guitar) and Seth Asarnow (bandoneon) perform with six dynamic tango couples from the San Francisco Bay Area, “Tango: A Romantic Ritual” delves into a phenomenon that has captivated the imagination of the world - the customs, courtesies and silent language of tango. This evocative presentation will seduce you into a sensual, playful love affair with Argentine Tango. Saturday, Feb 14 8pm and Sunday, Feb 15 2pm.
