where the writers are

Starting with a meta-blog

June 30, 2008, 6:22 am

Since I seem to have suddenly been 'featured' as a Red Room author by roulette, I thought I'd turn my dormant profile into 'barely alive.' Now, a 'blog headline/excerpt' feature would be really useful, since I put most of my writing time into my personal blog, (www.ribbonfarm.com) , but here's a manually-compiled index of recent stuff I've posted:

From Bubbles to Cloud: The Evolution of Enterprise 2.0, a piece that attempts to capture ongoing organizational changes in the corporate world via a metaphor involving boiling water. I do a LOT of metaphor on ribbonfarm, mostly inspired by the work of George Lakoff.

Theory W, Theory X and Theory Y: A piece about emerging models of talent management, first of a 2-part series.

The Three-Leaps-of-Faith Rule: A piece written for a newsletter targeting ABDs. Package includes one whimsical cartoon and a dollop of Stuart-Smalley 'daily affirmations' motivation. But mainly a positive-pragmatic message.

Roundup Mar 21 - June 16: This is getting seriously meta. A roundup within a roundup.

Looking around at all the other writers here, it strikes me that I am definitely an outlier here. Unapologetic corporate-capitalist (call me neo-liberal) non-fiction guy, among a community of culture vultures. Hmm...

Maybe I'll do some bait posts :)

interesting concepts

this is a whole new way of looking at organizational dynamics for me. i like when you add drawings and cartoons! i'm having to think a lot about your ideas because i am familiar with your language and metaphors but in the context of environmental engineering. i'm talking for example your metaphor with the boiling water to condensation and cloud formation.

How did you come up with this metaphor?
