Thinking Juice
Thinking Juice

I am really happy about the Internet, I have just switched to Hellas OnLine which means I have a fiber optic connection.  The line has taken a long time to place because Chania sits on a huge hard rock.  A great place to live when an earthquake trembles through, but not so good for digging ditches and laying underground cables.  The wait has been worth it.

I enjoy being able to get in touch with my friends around the world whenever I wish.  I also enjoy making new friends. And I enjoy researching. The only problem is that I have an interest in so many things that I'll follow just about any link that pops up if I think I can learn something new.

So I am really getting to understand my characteristic behaviors and there definitely exist some that need a bit of change.

The looming bad habit is my penchant for signing up for free newsletters.  Pretty much any button that says 'free' in reach of a mouse click does get clicked.  I've notice my work weeks go like this.

I sit down with a coffee frappe and good intentions for creative writing.  I end up signing up for a lot of newsletters and widgets.  The next week I end up unsubscribing because I will never read nor use most of my newly collected items from the Net.

Not only that, I feel badly for the people I am "unsubscribing from."  What if I hurt their feelings?  I don't want to do that, so if the number of subscribers or followers are noted I keep anything with less than 100 subscribers, I don't keep anything with more than 1000 subscribers and the rest I debate about.

Well, today is Monday.  I wonder what weird behavioral quirk will rear its ugly head next.

Hi Vicki

I can imagine how happy you would be with your new connection, and fiber optic, no less! That is brilliant. If we ever have a break in our service it's like the world coming down around us, the trauma, the drama, the stress. Oh dear. Thankfully, it's rare that we have problems. I am so grateful for technology!

Hope you are having a lovely week. :)

Did you see the launch of the Ares prototype today?

This may surprise you

but I don't watch TV (except DVDs), listen to the radio or read newspapers, so I didn't even know there was a launch today. Just looked it up and it looks interesting. I wonder if Gina nd myself will ever get the chance to go into space one day. That would be amazing. This new launch seems to be paving the way for the future of manned space flight, so I suppose it's not unrealistic to think it could happen. I know there was already talk of commercial space flight programmes being made available, but don't know if they even managed to get the businesses off the ground (no pun intended).

I have not looked outside for two days so I'm not sure about the weather. I think it might have been raining but I'm not sure! Haaa!

Ah, another hermit, like me!

I signed up for Livestation on the internet. It has Al Jazeera english, which has some great interviews (i'm a political junkie) and also other channels. I had the livestation on without sound but was still given an alert signal about the launch yesterday. So both yesterday and today I was waiting for the weather conditions and other conditions to be right for the take off. The fun thing about Livestation is they have a chatroom for Al Jazeera and NASA channel. So especially with nothing happening yesterday and today, just waiting for the right launch conditions, we had a group of strangers mostly in the chat room sharing links about the Ares and about the weather. Plus telling lots of jokes. Ah, even nerds like me need a social life! and Livestation Chat is about as 'real time' social as I can get a lot of the time. Especially good for people with a wardrobe of only pajamas :-) .
I haven't even been on Twitter cause of the NASA channel!
Hello to your lovely wife.

Thank you for your greeting for Gina. It might amuse you to find out that she has over 40 pairs of pyjamas and that collection is growing!

I am aiming for sixty pairs

I am aiming for sixty pairs by Christmas (hint hint, to anyone who may be reading this and feel the urge to go shopping in the not too distant future). I can't imagine any clothing being more comfortable to work in. Hand-knitted socks are a valuable addition too.
