The Power of Human Kindness

February 4, 2008, 2:58 pm

If you doubt the goodness of the human spirit, take a look at what happened last week. The call went out for bloggers to mention Patry Francis and her novel...and more than 400 blogs answered. Sure, it's wonderful that the book's Amazon.com numbers fell (or rose!) to the 300s, but what moves me far more is the collective goodness that came from this. Authors and bloggers...and authors who are bloggers...connected for the first time and forged new friendships, based solely on sharing in this act of caring. Personally, I have at least five new contacts...budding friendships, I'm quite sure...because of Patry and her novel. But there's one element that overshadows all others, and that we need to keep in mind. I've never met Patry, but I'm guessing that this universal response came about because she is dearly loved and respected by those who knew her.

It was my pleasure to be among the 400...and it would be an even greater pleasure to one day meet this special woman!

continuing topic of kindness, it's kingly of you to offer french relocation support...

my question of today, having seen the queues at la poste is: is it possible to purchase international postage stamps a la tabac?

and how did a three month stay in france get so long? was it...love?

all agog,

Love...yes...for a place

Helen, how's it going 'over there'? Have you found the falafel window at Chez Marianne? If you succumb, think of me.

I stayed because I  began to meet fascinating people...writers, painters, actors, film directors...and couldn't find a reason to return to the States. My children were off to university, I had just sold my home, and the three months I needed to learn a proficient French got me as far as asking directions to the toilette!
