Review of War of the Soulites - science fiction
Review - War of the Soulites - By Gary Starta
Shipmates fighting divided allegiances must somehow battle an enemy that is often intangible in War of the Soulites, recently published from Lyrical Press.
Natasha Bennett's novel treats readers to plenty of twists and turns as she exploits the divided loyalities of the Vigilant crew who are ordered to learn about a dangerous new race called the Soulites. But what will they will learn from the Soulites, a non corporeal race of beings who previously attacked a Vigilant crew nine years prior, might only further increase the strife between the ship's captain and his new first officer, a known terrorist.
Fueling paranoia and conspiracy theories further, the crew explores the possibility that the Soulites were created to give humankind the promise of afterlife. Yet ironically, this afterlife might only come at the extinction of humankind. The initial installment is well worth reading as a follow up novel is planned. Based on this book's ending, this reader can only hope Bennett will continue to exploit the ambiguity of her characters which makes War of the Soulites such an edgy and entertaining space drama.
