Adults who read YA

I can't be the only "grownup" out there who likes good young adult literature. Can I?

New Challenge!

Lizzie Skurnick posted this blog about her book Shelf Discovery, and I think it would be a natural for this club:

Shelf discovery

I agree. It does sound like a natural. I'll have to get my hands on a copy of the book. I could only find two that interested me in the online list, because I'm much more interested in YA than MG. But I'm sure the book has a lot more. Thanks for leaving that link!

Catherine! This is a natural for you!!

I'm planning on doing...

Summer of Fear, Lois Duncan

Fifteen, Beverly Cleary

To Take  A Dare, Crescent Dragonwagon and Paul Zindel

The Long Secret, Louise Fitzhugh (I'm reading this right now)

The other two I haven't decided yet.  I know a couple off hand that are YA:

Tiger Eyes, Judy Blume

Forever, Judy Blume

Wifey, Judy Blume (This is in a section titled Books We Weren't supposed To Read But Did)

To All My Fans With Love From Sylvie, Ellen Conford

Happy Endings Are All Alike, Sandra Scoppertone

Sister of the Bride, Beverly Cleary

And pretty good timing...

As I'm just today wrapping up the first draft of a new YA. Now I might actually get a minute to look into this.

For years I've been wanting to read "Summer of my German Soldier," because I saw the TV movie when I was much younger, and I just loved it so much. It's very rare for me to love a movie based on a book and to not yet have read the book. So I have some serious amends to make to the author of German Soldier.

Wonderful!!

I loved Summer of My German Soldier. I just bought the sequel and am planning on rereading it soon.

Whoa

There's a SEQUEL? I've got a lot of reading to do!

Jennifer Gibbons

Jennifer Gibbons says:

Yup!

It's about Patty graduating from high school, then she decides to go to Europe. Her parents are not thrilled about this, being the dopey idiots they were (sorry! Still ticked off at the Parents Bergen!)

The book is titled Morning is a Long Time Coming.

Bergens

I still remember that line about her parents being "seconds." But rather than getting a discount because of it, she'd been paying dearly all her life.

Let me know...

I just bought "Summer of my German Soldier"... and the Lizzie Skurnick Shelf Discover book. Please let me know what you think of the "Summer" sequel. I have misgivings about sequels, but would love to hear your take.
