Club Profile

Description

The Afghan Women's Writing Project was begun as a way to allow the voices of Afghan women -- too often silenced -- to enter the world. The project reaches out from the desks of authors and writing teachers around the U.S. to Afghanistan's capital and some of it most conservative provinces. As the Taliban regains power, particularly in the south of the country, these women's freedoms are again threatened. Some of these women are brave young journalists; others have studied briefly in the states but are now back home, others hope to study here at some point. They all have workable English (sometimes excellent English) and access to a computer. They have compelling stories that they are just beginning to share. They need appreciative readers and support as they find their voices.
