Using ancient ritual to heal modern communities.

I've been exploring the revival of ancient rituals and myths to heal modern communities. I have added two videos, Part 1 and 2, of such an event I saw on Witness (program on Al JaZeera) which is being used to bring a community together after terrible conflict. I will try to add others. Does anyone know of other communities using such a technique for healing?

Modern interpretation of the Black Virgin, Art Exposition

I also wanted to share a modern interpretation of the Black Virgin. I believe she may be the longest worshiped deity of all time, even surviving the Roman Catholic experience and the Christian crusades.

Example of an ancient ritual that can heal

Hi Vicki,
One last link about how Native Americans use storytelling to preserve their culture. The stories can mean many things to listeners depending on where they are on their life paths, inlcuding healing I believe.

Hi Vicki! In regards to

Hi Vicki!
In regards to ancient rituals to heal, didn't ancient cultures use various herbs, plant extracts, and minerals in these rituals? I think they did (correct me if I'm wrong) and if so, I believe they can be used to heal in modern times. Maybe not the actual rituals healed people but the ingredients they used and mixed together could have.

plants very important for healing, ritual

Hi Alicia, yes, and the thought I have right away is that some of those ancient rituals and ingredients for healing used in Crete still are visible! I'm thinking of basil used as a cleansing herb, now the priests dip it into holy water and shake it in a space like the day before school opens, in the school. Also they touch everyone's forehead with the basil I think as the people at the opening file by.

Today I was watching PressTV on Livestation from Iran. They did a piece on honeybees being used for healing in Palestine since the people don't have any medicine (unfortunately) due to Israeli's not letting medicine through. So people were again relying on old ways. So honey bees were being used to ease back pain and lots of different things. One fellow must have had an eye problem 'cause they showed him closing his eye and the healer holding a bee right at the edge of the eye next to the nose so the bee would sting him. (we really need find a way to get medicine to those people.)

Oh, and when I was pregnant I was asked to sit on the floor and by the way I stood up there were people able to predict the sex of my babies. and they predicted correctly.

Thanks, Alicia, I'll try to remember some more!
