David Shalleck: Authors on the Move

03/01/2008 - 5:00pm

A delicious meal, stimulating company, and a great cause -- Food for Thought is the theme of this year's Sacramento premiere literary event, Authors on the Move, at 5 p.m., Saturday, March 1, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 1209 L Street, Sacramento, which will benefit the Sacramento Public Library Foundation. Keynote authors speaking at the event are Deborah Santana, whose book, Space between the Stars, chronicles her experiences growing up in a multi-racial home. Sandy Tollan looks at the diverse and similar experiences of Israeli and Palestinian families in the charged atmosphere of the Middle East in her book, The Lemon Tree: An Arab, a Jew, and the Heart of the Middle East. Food Network producer David Shalleck, author of Mediterranean Summer, will tell how he became an inventive and creative chef in a tiny kitchen aboard a luxurious yacht on the Riviera. Over 35 additional authors will circulate among the dinner guests, sharing their creative inspirations. The library fundraiser will feature a unique silent auction. CBS13 Sacramento television weather forecaster Dave Bender will serve as master of ceremonies and auctioneer for a live auction. Guests may purchase a table for eight for $1,500 or an individual ticket for $175. The Library Foundation’s mission is to enhance the Sacramento Public Library’s ability to serve the community by raising private funds.
