Poetry is both an act of inner discovery and a gesture of community. A poem may articulate something very personal, but it is also a movement out of the self and into connection. And a poem that begins with the world outside the self can also illuminate individual experience. In this workshop we'll explore the myriad ways that writing can access the rich interior of our lives, as well as address the world we want to describe and witness. We'll read and discuss some powerful poetry of authentic feeling, to understand how and why it is successful. This is a workshop to guide you towards new writing and deeper engagement with both self and world.
