Maria Finn: Malbec to Bistec: A Food and Wine Writing Workshop
Exploring a region’s food and wine offers fascinating glimpses into local personalities, and reflections of the history and culture of a people. This writing workshop will focus on traditional Argentine food and wine as well as the creative gastronomic scene spurred by world-wide interest in Mendoza wines. Participants will learn how to brainstorm ideas, find
unique story angles, craft a query, research topics and interview subjects, with the goal of writing a draft and then a polished article or essay.
Workshop leader Maria Finn taught for six years in the English department at Hunter college in New York. Her essays have been anthologized in The Best Food Writing 2006 and The Best Women's Travel Writing 2007, and she’s published articles in The New York Times, Gastronomica, Saveur, been a finalist for I many fiction awards. Her memoir, How Tango Saved My Life, is forthcoming on Algonquin Books in February 2010.
