This workshop will focus on the journey of memoir writing. We will address the key elements of writing a compelling memoir, how to find your voice, your memoir’s focus, how to organize your memoir, how to gather information and how to bring your story to life.

Participants will be encouraged to maintain an independent journal throughout their creative journey. Keeping a notebook is a powerful tool for the writer; it’s a place to develop ideas, store memories, treasures and anecdotes and also a place to find voice and practice writing techniques. The workshop will also include writing exercises, memory-retrieval tips and a discussion of already-published memoirs. Students will be encouraged to share their work for group critique, although this is not mandatory.
