Jessica Keener: Purple Day

03/10/2011 - 1:56pm

Will you join me for Writers for Purple Day, March 26, 2009?

You don’t have to do anything except paste a Purple Day logo on your website/blog with a link back to the Purple Day website (www.purpleday.org). Your name will appear on a special Purple Day website page with a growing list of amazing writers supporting Purple Day. The folks organizing Purple Day are going after national coverage, too.

Purple Day started last year in Canada when nine year-old Cassidy Megan, who has epilepsy, wanted to broaden public awareness about her condition. Why purple? Lavender is the color associated with epilepsy around the globe.

“Before I started Purple Day, I was afraid to tell people about my epilepsy,” Cassidy says. “I thought they would make fun of me. I wanted to tell everyone about epilepsy, especially that all seizures are not the same and that people with epilepsy (50 million worldwide) are ordinary people just like everyone else.”

Every writer knows what it’s like to be marginalized. That’s why I’m asking you to join me in supporting Writers for Purple Day on March 26, 2009.

Send me your author link and I’ll add you to this wonderful list. My hope is that this reciprocity will bring you new readers and do some good at the same time. Contact me at: jessica at jbkeener dot com.

Thanks!
