Best advice for writers about research:
You don’t have to be a subject expert. What do you really need to know, why do you need to know it, and what you can just make up.
Begin writing at the same time you begin to research. Writing and research should fuel the other.
Be sure to take the time to confirm the accuracy of information you do use so you can avoid factual errors and gross misinformation
If you find out something that conflicts with your thesis, don’t dismiss it. Use it.
Don’t put everything you know into your writing. Story grids are great, but don’t put it all in the finished work.
Avoid the urge to use everything you learn. Too much data listing bogs down the story and sounds like a list.
Know when to stop researching and don’t let it interfere with your writing.
Be open. Allow yourself to discover new information in unlikely places.
