Carla Reed departed for New York City on August 2, 2009 to choreograph "KOOL Dancing in my Mind," a dance tribute to her longtime Japanese friend and dance partner alongside stage director Robert Wilson. KOOL was performed at Watermill, Long Island on August 8 and 9. Ishmael Reed joined Carla Reed on August 8 to speak about KOOL. On August 11 Ishmael Reed and Carla Reed traveled to Manhattan for a mini-vacation. Ishmael Reed returned to the Bay Area on August 15 while Carla Reed began to direct the New York City premiere of "The Domestic Crusaders" a play based on the lives of an upper-class suburban Pakistani-American family. It was written by Wajahat Ali. The play ran at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe from September 11-October 11 with sold out audiences. On August 23 Ishmael Reed returned to New York and Tennessee Reed flew out to New York City on August 31 to begin her book tour. She read at Hue-Man Books on September 1, Bluestockings Books (that was aired on Book TV) on September 2, McNally's Books on September 3 and at Red Emma's Bookstore Coffeehouse in Baltimore on September 6. From September 9-11 Ishmael Reed and Tennessee Reed traveled to Miami where Ishmael Reed spoke at Books & Books and at Miami Dade College about NeoHooDoo a traveling art exhibit that had premiered in Houston and was then on at exhibit at the Miami Art Museum. On September 11, Ishmael Reed and Tennessee Reed returned to New York City for the premiere of "The Domestic Crusaders." On September 12 Tennessee Reed read at Tribes Gallery. They all returned to the Bay Area on September 14.
