Mission: The James Patterson PageTurner Awardsare a cash prize program established by bestselling author James Patterson. They are given to people, companies, educational institutions, and other organizations that find innovative and effective methods to generate interest in books and reading.
Accomplishments: For the third year in a row, James Patterson will announce awards honoring American and Canadian groups and individuals who promote the joys of reading in their communities. On March 15th, 2008, the 2007 award winners will be given prizes totaling $250,000. The awards are as follows:
U.S Recipients
Individual Awards:
One award in the amount of $25,000;
Five awards each in the amount of $5,000; and
Five awards each in the amount of $2,500;
Organization Awards:
One award in the amount of $50,000;
Two awards each in the amount of $25,000;
Five awards each in the amount of $5,000; and
fifteen awards each in the amount of $2,500.
Canadian recipients
One award in the amount of $20,000
Two awards each in the amount of $2,500
Past awards have gone to two Red Room supported causes, Litquake and 826 Valencia. Others have gone to Frederick Douglass Academy III in Bronx, New York; Center for the Book in Fairfax, Virginia; Community Works in San Francisco; Washington Center for the Book in Seattle; First Book in Washington, D.C.; and Pam Shelton of the Botswana Book Project, among others.
