  • Everybody That You Know

    August 6, 2009

    • Not living in Bogotá is going to mean a lot of things.  It is going to mean, first and foremost, not living around mountains.  I know before I leave that I will miss the mountains of Latin America, but I always underestimate how lonely it can feel without them.  Mountains breathe and hold you close in Latin America; they burst up through sidewalks and even in the middle of certain Embassy ...
  • Got An Email From Hilary Clinton Today

    July 15, 2009

    • Technically it was addressed to all State personnel and not me personally, but that's besides the point.  & yesterday I saw both her and the President's signatures- original, not copies- on some documents.  Obama favors the fine-point Sharpie; Hilary goes with the ballpoint or the classic roller-ball. Working at an Embassy is so freaking cool.
  • The TV Channels Are Definitely The Problem Here

    July 9, 2009

    • “The enemies of the Iranian nation are angry with the post-election calm in Iran and try to damage it through their TV channels."- Morteza Tamaddan, Governer-General of Tehran (emphasis added).
  • Mama Doesn't Do Enough With Her Blog Here

    July 8, 2009

    • so I'm just going to complain about it. I'm not very good at missing people, but I want my boyfriend back.  I'm not very broken up about it.  I just think about him incessently, and am mildly annoyed at the fact that he really doesn't seem to be around anymore. Big news of the day (in my opinion, at least) is the new head of MI6's wife putting personal information and photos on Facebook, with ...

  • From the Ground

    July 3, 2009

    • "Honduras-Marshall Law is in Effect.with 10pm curfew and Media Blackouts. People were afraid to give interviews today, as in their opinion, the international media, namely, CNN Espanol, has been sensationalizing and distorting this story making Honduras look bad.The people I spoke with today, made one thing clear, Zelaya is a Traitor to the Republic, and should be able to return as a ...

    July 1, 2009

    • I was pretty happy yesterday when, in a serious discussion on world issues with my boyfriend, I compared myself to the frog who pees in the hand of whoever picks it up.  (Actually this may have been in reference to my habit of crying when startled or stressed.)  Not only did I get to compare myself to a frog, but he got it.  Clearly, it's true love.I still can't get over baby Jude's fat, fat ...
  • It's Always Darkest Just Before It Goes Pitch Black

    July 1, 2009

    • I am utterly in despair over the situation in Honduras.  Yesterday I was a little on the fence about it.  Maybe the E.U. and the U.S. and the U.N. were right.  Maybe the ousting of Zelaya could have been handled a little better, with a little more caution.  Maybe their concerns were really legitimate. But I've been following all the articles about it I can on the MSM, and it is just looking ...
  • My Bad

    June 29, 2009

    • Maybe I should have mentioned that I have a lifelong habit of starting projects like this and eventually, usually immediately, abandoning them.  Daily anything is a good indicator that it will soon be but a memory. I'm kind of surprised at the outrage over the coup in Honduras.  When was the last time people commenting on it were up close and personal with a Central American government?  We ...

    • 1. I'm not sure how to phrase this one.  You know how when things go to hell in a handbasket, and it's all very dramatic and everything that could possibly go wrong does, but it is not life-or-death so really, if you think about it, it's all okay?  Well, that is what is going on with me and a job opportunity right now.  The employer very much wants me to accept this job, and I just need to ...

  • Meh

    June 14, 2009

    • I'm not sure if I'm happy or a little bummed that my brother made it through his baptism yesterday without saying his new favorite sentence, which is "I farted!"  Later he got a Spiderman outfit (or Pamilon, as he pronounces it), and I definitely wasn't thrilled about him using it as an excuse to tackle me and then punch me in the crotch, but I was happy about how cute he looked doing ...

    • 1. Eye drops for dry eyes.  I had Lasik surgery a few months ago and I'm supposed to be using lubricating drops religiously; I lost my bottle a few days ago and didn't notice until my eyes got so uncomfortable I wondered if maybe I hadn't picked up pinkeye.  But I found my eyedrops again!  My eyes are so happy right now!

  • Oh Heavens

    June 8, 2009

    • I have neglected this.  Lately the universe has been having a lot of fun throwing really good news at me (you got the summer job!), and then following up with really lousy caveats (it's only six weeks, not four months, and you can't start working for another month!).  That and waiting on my boyfriend's visa to his next post is wearing terribly on the nerves- this is the third week in a row that ...
