About Me

  • I had no intention of becoming a writer, never thought of myself as a writer, rarely wrote, yet loved language.

One of my first classes at Penn was Biography, Autobiography and Fiction with Dr. Irma Lustig, an amazing teacher. We read diaries and papers of Boswell, Johnson, Woolf and others, then read the works written about them or by them during the same time. Fascinating. Loved it! Our assignment during the class was to keep a journal, something I hadn't really done before. For the final project we were to create a work of art - painting, play, short story, poem, photography series, anything - that was inspired by the journaling.

I wrote a short story. She read it and proclaimed: "You are a writer."

News to me. I was just trying to get an A.
