About Me
Born and brought up in Rangoon, Burma and England, Kyi May Kaung has been writing since she was a teenager. She is also a professional artist, painting abstracts and figures and has lived in the United States for over twenty years.
She is the winner of the William Carlos Williams Prize of the Academy of American Poets, a Fulbright, a Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Award and an award from the North Eastern Illinois University for her Burma-related work. Her feminist poem-story She-Monkey goes West and her play Shaman were Pew finalist scripts. Shaman was praised by Edward Albee.
She currently works for the Burmese democratic government in exile and divides her time between the United States and travel in Asia and Europe.
She has published two poetry chapbooks, Tibetan Tanka and Pelted with Petals: The Burmese Poems and has read poetry in North America and Canada and in S.E. Asia.
She lives among plants, books and paintings and tries hard to get it all done.
