About Me

  • Teresa Jusino entered the world kicking and screaming on the same day that Skylab fell.  Coincidence?  She thinks not.  Her writing has appeared in the community newspaper, Elmont Life, as well as on the sadly defunct website, CentralBooking.com, edited by Kevin Smokler.  Currently, she is a contributing writer for PinkRaygun.com, a webzine that examines geek culture from a feminine perspective.  She has also recently become a comics writer for PopMatters.com.  Teresa is working on several projects including essays, a comic, and a collection of short stories.  She hopes that, one day, her fiction will be read by people who don't know her.

Relationship Status

  • Nope. Not yet.

Family

  • I have them. Some with adults, some with children. They make me happy. :)

Interests & Hobbies

  • I like stuff.  Things too, but mostly stuff.

    Some of that stuff is:

writing, reading, singing (LOTS of karaoke), engaging in geekery, watching films, TV, and theater, taking walks, hanging out with friends over good wine, and figuring out ways by which I can save the world...

Favorite Books

  • 1984, Everything Is Illuminated, The Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, How to Breathe Underwater, The Secret History, Unaccustomed Earth, Man Walks Into a Room, Y: The Last Man, The Sandman, Pride and Prejudice

Favorite Authors

  • Shakespeare, George Orwell, Virginia Woolf, Jane Austen, Jhumpa Lahiri, Donna Tartt, Jonathan Safran Foer, Nicole Kruass, Brian K. Vaughan

What I'm Reading

  • I just finished reading "Proust was a Neuroscientist" by Jonah Lehrer, which I would highly recommend to artists of all types. Now, I'm reading "Dead Until Dark" by Charlene Harris. Yes, I love "True Blood" on HBO. Sue me. :)

WORK

  • My day job is being a press assistant for a small theatrical PR firm. My hope is that one day people will pay me enough to write that I can make a living doing it. We'll see how THAT goes... :)

INFLUENCES

  • I have favorite authors...but I hesitate to name specific authors as "influences." It's probably safe to say that I've been influenced in one way or another by everyone I've ever read.

CAUSES I SUPPORT

  • The Girl Effect - a smart way to address social, economic, and political problems in the world

Children's International - I'm sponsoring a lovely girl in the Phillippines, and it's a great and personal way to do real good in someone's life

iMentor - the mentorship program for people who "don't have time" to mentor

Dancing Classrooms - changing the lives of public school children through ballroom dance (as you've seen in the documentary Mad, Hot Ballroom or the film Take the Lead)

Stone Soup Theater Arts - a socially conscious, politically active New York-based theater company going into its eighth season.
