About Me

  • I am your quintessential struggling writer needing more opportunities than the economy needs dollar bills.  In short, I am just asking for advice and mentoring as I post my writing.  You can find help in the most surprising places so I am here to learn from you.  I've done a bit here and there that has afforded me some pretty amazing opportunities but you probably haven't seen some big review about these "things."  Writing is truly a labour of love and let's just say my labour of love is not as "public"  as some of your labours.  God blessed me with this gift to create and reach others, but He didn't exactly clear the stones from the pathway thus,  I may need assistance in getting there.

    Thanks in advance!

Relationship Status

  • married and trying everyday to stay, as most of us in mariages are--this is a positive thing

Family

  • Two "young" parents, a couple of sisters and a mess of cousins, in-laws, a neice, three nephews, and let's not ignore my own three angelic kids.

Interests & Hobbies

  • Of course, like you, I read  anything I can get my hands on and sometimes write on anything (the walls, tissue--long as it absorbs ink or sometimes even marker or crayon).  I am heavily involved in the performing arts and helping others.  When I am not writing or working on some wild goose chase of a project, I actually talk to people.  This sustains the soul of a little known writer when the days get brutal.

Favorite Books

  • The Spook Who Sat by the Door, The Bluest Eye, Jane Eyre, The Joyluck Club, The Kitchen God's Wife, The Great Gatsby, The Color Purple, Quicksand, Passing, Great Expectations, my unpublished manuscript/novel-Typecasting, Homemade Love, Some Soul to Keep, and the plays A Raisin in the Sun, Fences, and The Piano Lesson, as well as my play Mixed Nuts.

Favorite Authors

  • J. California Cooper, me (without being vain), Nella Larsen, Amy Tan, August Wilson, Lorraine Hansberry, and myriad writers that some would deem undeserving--regretfully.

What I'm Reading

  • I am reading a few colorful memoirs--The House on Mango Street, to name one.

WORK

  • What do struggling writers do? You guessed it, they teach!
