About Me

  • I tackle life goals six months at a time. I do what I dream of doing, and actively ignore everyone telling me otherwise. One of the most intelligent people I ever met told me I was a complete waste of talent and I want to see the fruit of those squanderings.

In 22 years, I worked part-time for close to a dozen different employers. After every job, I learned at least a few valuable lessons, acquired new skills, and died a little on the inside.

  • I'm Like A Bad Comb-Over

    January 27, 2009

    • One of my worst problems is spreading myself too thin. I chalk it up to being overambitious and taking on too many things. Better that, I figure, than being complacent with my station in life. Reality dictates, however, that both circumstances produce the same results: nothing gets done. I find myself in that situation again. My father spent the last six weeks starting a new restaurant in Delmar. ...
  • Can I Succeed At Self-Publishing?

    January 22, 2009

    • I'm dedicating this post to answering the questions posted previously, about whether or not I've fully considered the implications of self-publishing. Self-publishing for money means running a business. Are you capable of running a business? I think I mentioned it before, but I'm equally drawn to the business side as I am to actually writing. It's why I feel the self-publishing model is a good ...
  • Your Critics Offer the Most Valuable Input

    January 9, 2009

    • One method I use to learn more about self-publishing is by posting my questions on forums that discuss various aspects of writing/publishing. This may seem obvious, though I feel sometimes the ease of accessing information due to the versatility of Google makes us too reliant on one search engine. We forget there are other, more direct ways to access the best information - by posing questions not ...
  • Kids Lose Their Sh*t Over Nintendo Wii

    January 7, 2009

    • I generally avoid posting viral videos. There are only so many times one can watch a shoe being thrown at our President, no matter how many times it’s edited - oh, the hilarity ensues! As this is related to materialism (and its inverse, minimalism) I’ll make an exception: Kids lose their shit over Nintendo Wii’s. Not only do we own a Wii, we are a group of diverse, multicultural persons. ...
  • Bullsh*t Advantages of Self-Publishing

    January 5, 2009

    • Here are some bullsh*t advantages some might try to sell you about self-publishing. There's nothing false or wrong about any of the statements, which makes them so deceiving. However, I'd hardly call them advantages: "You design your book, so you have total control on how it looks!" Oh, splendid, because between honing my writing and learning about system design, marketing, and ...

  • Dennis - I think E-books

Dennis - I think E-books will get more and more popular as electronic readers become more mainstream. However, if you're looking to boost sales?

  • great tip, thanks!

Awesome, thanks for this tip, Michelle! I've been researching ways to beat that 55% discount. Couldn't have come at a better time!
