- I was born in upstate New York and lived in Australia and then Canada from 1964-1979. I've always been a writer and wrote, illustrated, and "bound" my first book when I was about 10 years old. Following graduation from college I worked as a writer/research for the Nova Scotia Museum. After completing my PhD I taught philosophy at the University of Rhode Island and worked at Brown University as an administrator for several years before returning to full-time writing.
