Learned while working for a weekly business publication that I had the discipline to pound out reams of material on demand. The fiction work has proved far more difficult. I have this terror of being savaged by some bright young thing at the New York Times -- or much worse, being accused of "stealing" the style of some famous author that I've never heard of. I know the writing is going slowly when my oven is clean.
