Creative LoafingReview Excerpt:
Scott Owens has produced a more satisfying book in The Persistence of Faith. There are some unforgettable imaginative feats in this thin tome. Almost all occur when Owens lifts the mask of God -- or that Savior dude -- to his face and retells the key events of religious cosmological history.
He does this with a fearless honesty and a style that can be brutally profane or coldly corporate. No heavenly father I was previously familiar with could be so exasperated and spontaneous that he'd say, "Fuck it. Here's a boy to play with."

The thrust of these divine reimaginings is almost always deeply provocative -- built on the juxtaposition of reality and myth. Owens is frankly retailoring myth as he pens his godly anecdotes. The pleasure is in seeing how tightly it fits. In particular, I expect "The Right One" to show up in anthologies shortly. Definitely a Coca-Cola antichrist for the ages.
