Review Excerpt:
Khaled Hosseini’s second novel, A Thousand Splendid Suns, is an ambitious work. Once again the setting is Afghanistan, but this time he has taken the last 33 years of that country’s tumultuous history of war and oppression and told it on an intimate scale, through the lives of two women.

Clear andTrue
Like Kite Runner, this is a really good book, plot and character-driven, and very easy to read. The integrity of events, the fact that all this could so easily have happened to the characters without over-writing and excessive exposition or description is what I like most about the book. Like Kite Runner, it uses character and personal stories to encapsulate history, but of very different people. The effect is very authentic.
