An eclectic mess of fiction and nonfiction: Giorgio de Santillana and Hertha von Dechend's "Hamlet's Mill," M. John Harrison's "The Pastel City," John Michell's "The View Over Atlantis" (a grand visionary prose poem too often read as fact), Edgar Pangborn's "Davy," Theodore Roszak's "Where the Wasteland Ends," J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings," and Arnold Toynbee's "A Study of History," among too many others.

What I'm Reading

Lewis Spence's "The Magic Arts in Celtic Britain," David Hiley's "Western Plainchant: A Handbook," and a collection of old instructional papers from one of the old Druid orders that folded into the Ancient Order of Druids in America.

The brilliance of Greer is that he takes the trouble to explain these social mindsets from the beginning so by the end of it you are like "yeah how obvious". [...] So don't sweat it just get your mind around it and proceed in an orderly fashion to the nearest practical skill building class. Quite affirming, I would say, for all us appropriate technology flickerati. I sure hope this book becomes the peak oil spiritual bible, because if Kunstler continues to hold sway it's just going to make it more difficult.
