Awesome Lavratt

Synopsis:
Beautiful Aranna Navna plans to conquer the galaxy one planet at a time. She steals the Awesome Lavratt, a mind control device, from a freighter in Horace Whistlestop’s junkyard. She takes Horace, too. With the Lavratt, Aranna manipulates the thoughts and desires of everyone around her —- until she gets to the Emperor of Calistania. Then things go from bad to worse for Aranna. The Lavratt, however, has only just begun! Oh, the fun you can have from a small cube with mind control powers. Travel the galaxy with Tyrantz Lavratt. Silly science fiction at its best. All puns intended.
Book Excerpt:
Aranna woke with a jerk, drenched in perspiration. She instinctively clutched her empty locket. She looked at the black cube on the shelf by her bed as though it were a tarantula crawling toward her. She could sense the Lavratt radiating energy. Aranna shivered....
She shoved it into an emergency supply locker, on top of a spare space suit, hoping the shielding there would put an end to the nightmares. She had had the same one three times now.
Aranna woke up on the fourth day refreshed and feeling pleased with herself. She'd had no more nightmares or feelings of being watched since she'd left the Lavratt in the airlock.
Drome loomed in the portal, waiting for its conqueress. Aranna donned her best, most revealing dress. The one she had greeted poor Horace in all those months ago....
She pulled her pack out of a closet to hide the Lavratt in.
That's when the perimeter alerts sounded.
An escort! How delightful!
A low, stern voice came over ship-to-ship, "Attention unidentified vessel. This is Commander Savta of Kvaratt One Spaceways. State your name, registry and reason for entering Kvaratt One Space."
How? What? I should be orbiting Drome!
Kvaratt was halfway to the other side of the rim. Aranna ran to the control room. The view screen shimmered, and indeed, there was Kvaratt One, where this whole journey began. Where Smurg had discovered the Awesome Lavratt.
The official repeated his demands, adding the threat, "or you will be boarded."
Someone else spoke Aranna's name. Her face blanched. The voice wasn't coming from the spaceport. It came from the airlock, and she wasn't hearing it at all. It was penetrating directly into her brain.
<<Aranna Navna, the real fun has only just begun. If there's one thing that can be learned from three centuries without outer stimuli, it is patience. I haven't always been an inanimate cube. My name is Tyrantz Lavratt. Now it's my turn.>>
