If This Woman is Being Operated Recklessly

Synopsis:
Published under the pen name, Patricia Akis, the narrative poem alludes to two works of literature, The Little Engine That Could and Jane Eyre to describe the disenchantments of a woman trapped in an unfullfilling, loveless marriage.
Book Excerpt:
What did she do all day, that first mad wife of Rochester,
upstairs, alone, behind that locked, dark door?
She had all the time she needed to keep plates and toilets clean,
to polish copper shiny - I wonder: Did she?
