Mater Amabilis

Synopsis:
From the Director of the Abroad Writing Competition:
"What a magnificent short story... It was so moving and beautiful! For days afterwards, I found myself thinking about your story..."
Mater Amabilis is about belief, grief, inner reality and illusion. A mother has lost her sons. Or has she?
Book Excerpt:
"There were no wars in heaven. Not since Michael the Archangel had tossed Lucifer out. She disliked archangels. Surely a way could have been found to keep Lucifer in heaven, to make a friend of light. After all it had been said “let there be light and there was light” so why let him go?
Michael should have found a way, Charlotte felt. If he had, there would have been no war on earth. “Thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Heaven set the precedent in those days. She had snorted when they began to give each other the kiss of peace at Mass. She knew better. God, by his own account would have been more pleased to have them brawling in the aisles and casting out rivals - all you had to do was read the bible - or the world - to see that.
Now earth set the precedent: “Whatsoever you shall bind on earth, it shall be bound in heaven; whatsoever you shall loose on earth, it shall be loosed in heaven.” A big miscalculation on the part of theocracy, this sharing of power. A cosmic mistake. Heaven and earth locked in a great conspiracy to ensnare the innocent - so that the sons of grief-torn mothers would fight for what they were told was peace. Whereas they should have stayed home and fought for dominance in a field of understanding, in an effort to unleash - or harness - light."
