Synopsis:

“NOSE DOWN,EYES UP” is, in spirit,  a kind of follow up book to “WALKING IN CIRCLES BEFORE LYING DOWN” .It is, however,  about a different set of overly communicative dogs. It also marks the first time I have tried to write a human male narrator.  I have often written about the weird twists and turns  I have observed in the intimate negotiations that take place between men and women. Being inside the head of Gil, the narrator of NOSE DOWN EYES UP, was my attempt to better understand the male end of it all. Worried that I would get it wrong, I did a fair amount of paranoid checking and corrective  rewriting by consulting with actual members of the gender. Ultimately I have to admit that it felt more challenging  to get myself comfortably planted inside the head of a guy than to get inside the head of a dog.
