Synopsis:

Jim survived 9/11, but his life did not.  Torn apart by the loss of his mother in the 9/11 attacks and his narrow escape, Jim spirals down into a world consumed with hatred and fear, alienating his wife and son in the process.  Now, years later, from his refuge on an aunt's farm in the midwest, Jim suffers vivid flashbacks to those days when terror, suspicion, and anger were a way of life.  Trying to work through the flashbacks is difficult enough, but when a private detective comes to town trying to track Jim down, he can't help but fear that his actions following 9/11 have come back to haunt him.

Book Excerpt:

I will never be sure who it was, but in the chaos somebody grabbed my arm and dragged me to the exit.  We shouldered our way into the flood of people in the staircase and descended God knows how many flights before my hearing started to return.  I was just a block away when the plane hit the second tower.  Before the debris began raining down, I tore my feet, heavy as concrete slabs themselves, from the sidewalk and ran like hell.  I felt the rumble as the towers fell, but I never turned to look.
