Synopsis:
Jim survived 9/11, but his life did not. I will never be sure who it was, but in the chaos somebody grabbed my arm and dragged me to the exit. We shouldered our way into the flood of people in the staircase and descended God knows how many flights before my hearing started to return. I was just a block away when the plane hit the second tower. Before the debris began raining down, I tore my feet, heavy as concrete slabs themselves, from the sidewalk and ran like hell. I felt the rumble as the towers fell, but I never turned to look.
