Synopsis:

Recycle Suburbia is Dan Nowak's first collection of poetry. It showcases the complex boundaries of growing up in Toledo, Ohio.

Book Excerpt:

Star Made of Water

The dealership my father worked at for half

of his life refused to believe in unions.

Every winter he froze underneath

trucks, gravel stirred by the gravity of his

heat. He burned like a star; the ice

in his beard proved not all fires hate water.

For twenty years I bought him country club

sweaters for Christmas.  The one day

that we showed each other love robed in proud bows.

He wore them the Saturday he saw me next

and never again because of work's oil, because

it would take so little for him to burn without meaning.
