Synopsis:

The Orpheus Myth as reset in Paris in the late '80s.

With no idea as to whether his wife has left him or been abducted, Adam Füst--a young Hungarian émigré--returns to work as assistant to the controversial film director known simply as Gabor. At first it appears he'll be able to go on with his life, its surface smooth as ice; but with the help of Cuvillier, a brilliant but amoral cop, Adam sifts through the shards of his past five years with his wife Honnie and discovers how macabre her life had become. In search of her, he enters a Paris underworld of nightclubs and gothic eroticism, a world which repulses him even as it draws him ever inward.

Author Comment:

This was nearly filmed. A script had been written (not by me), and actors--among them, Julie Delpy and Philippe Noiret--and a director attached. One of the major backers stepped aside at the last minute and the project was cancelled. I hope to adapt this myself one day, resetting it in Los Angeles, and telling the story from the point of view of the detective.
