Influences

There are and were cooks on both sides of my family including my Mom, two of her brothers, my maternal Grandma, my paternal Grandpa and several of his brothers and others as well, so it was quite natural for me to write three cookbooks.

Then I wanted a change of pace so I write The Alberta Bed and Breakfast Guide Book and a book of wit and wisdom.

To explore my spirituality I eventually wrote a book that looks at ways to connect with the Divine titled, "The Joy of Finding God". That is my current book I'm working with.

Over the years I have become more and more aware that life has a definite rhythm to it. Day follows night and the sun, moon and stars appear in their appointed place every 24 hour cycle. The tides rise and fall with regularity and the seasons follow a fairly predictable timetable. In our own lives, even though we live to the beat of our own drums there is a rhythm...we sleep at fairly regular times and we usually eat three meals a day.

I have often wondered what was behind this rhythm. How is it that I can go to bed every night and know that when I awake in the morning I will experience daylight, just like I have for more tha fifty years now? How is it that I can count on the fact that every spring the leaves will reappear on the trees, the grass will grow and flowers will bloom? How can I depend on the fact that every 28 days we will have a new moon? The rhythm of the universe is assured.

But where does that rhythm originate? I have pondered this question many times and I always come back to the same answer. There must be some energetic Force that continues to regulate all these events and keep them operating in perfect harmony. I can't accept that this is just a fluke and that the complex rhythm of life just happens. I believe, instead, that there is a Cosmic Intelligence in nature and in the universe that synchronizes the days, seasons and all that is. And I choose to call that Cosmic Intelligence God.

I cannot explain the flow of life in any other way. When I take the time to stop and contemplate the awesome beat of life I am amazed and reassured that God has us in His care. My faith is strengthened and my spirit is refreshed to know that this is so.
