Synopsis:
Poems that explore the idea of self and how that self is strengthened and abraded by relationships. The poems coalesce around the condition of mortality--not a specific death, although these also occur, but the state of being mortal.
Book Excerpt:
"The Moon Makes Its Own Plea"
Nothing gets done
except existence. Sky
with its undirected patience.
Light carrying on
from window to window.
There are ashes in the fireplace.
I hold the grit of my life iin my hands.
The starlings, chattering wildly,
witness, but cannot grant.
What chance do I have
against perfection? Even Jacob
would not let the angels go
without a blessing.
Last night I woke myself from a dream
crying, Let me stay!
Ditto the moon.
