Mission: Save the Children is an independent organization creating real and lasting change for children in need in the United States and around the world. It is a member of the International Save the Children Alliance, comprising twenty-eight national Save the Children organizations working in more than 110 countries to ensure the well-being of children.
Accomplishments:
- International organization laid the foundation for 1998's United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child, which has been adopted by all but two U.N. member states.
- 90% of all expenditure is for program services
- Works in more than 110 countries
- Supports health programs in nearly forty countries
- Helped more than 2,000 children left homeless by 2007 floods in southern Mexico
- Rendered aid to thousands of children left homeless by 2007 Hurricane Noel in Hispaniola
Profile: Save the Children has its origins in post-World War I efforts to aid young survivors in Central Europe. Since then, Save the Children has helped millions of people in thousands of communities across the globe with, as its website states, "a hand up, not a handout."
