Out of the huts of history's shame I rise Up from a past that's rooted in pain I rise I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide, Welling and swelling I bear in the tide. Leaving behind nights of terror and fear I rise Into a daybreak that's miraculously clear I rise Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave, I am the dream and the hope of the slave. I rise I rise I rise. Maya Angelou is the author of such books as Wouldn't Take Nothing for My Journey Now, and I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.

Power in beauty
I love Maya Angelou, and her powerful words always inspire me to do a bit more. Just when I am about to drift off to sleep, I think whether I have done enough writing today, and if there needs to be a few more pages of my book finished before I drift off to sleep.

Breathtaking
There are no adequate words to describe the exhilirating experience of listening to Maya Angelou give life to her words through oration.
